Priyanka Ram

Composer

Priyanka Ram is a composer who thinks of music through color and texture. As a pianist and synth player, she has studied Western classical music, South Indian classical music and grew up in Texas around the influence of blues. These styles meld together to create surprising phrasings and rhythms. She is also an instrumentalist and performs other composer's scores.Part of her score system is to lay the circle of fifths over the color wheel to land on a specific mood and feeling for her improvisations. She did her undergraduate at UT Austin and her MFA at Art Center in Pasadena with a focus on sound art and the lineage between minimalist composer Terry Riley and Indian classical singer Pandit Pran Nath.She's played at Human Resources, The Smell, Neutra House, Dublab, and The Palms among other venues. She's participated in music residencies and runs an improvised piano hotline, Slowski's Piano Hotline. She's based in Los Angeles.
